SCIENCE YOUTH DAY -- Two hundred students from Okinawa, Miyako, Yaeyama and Kume islands enjoyed an action-packed Science Youth Day program of visit to outstanding local industrial, engineering and scientific activities, Feb. 9-10. The program, sponsored by the Ryukyu Electric Power Corporation in cooperationwith the Government of the Ryukyu Islands, Society of American Military Engineers, 313th Air Division, U.S. Civil Administration, and local industries, commemorated the birthday of Thomas A. Edison, Feb. 11, 1947, celebrated world-wide under the auspices of the Edison Foundation. Highlights of the seventh annual program were visits to and lectures at the Kin Power Plant, Ishikawa Water Treatment Plant, the Air Force's Computer and Flight Operations Center, the Army's Sukiran Communications Center, Chubu Sugar Mill and the Okinawa Plywood Company.
【和訳】青少年科学の日 - 沖縄本島、宮古、八重山、久米島の学生200人が、2月9日から10日にかけて行われた地元の優れた産業、工学、科学活動を見学する充実したプログラムを楽しんだ。このプログラムは琉球電力公社が主催し、琉球政府、米軍技術者協会、第313航空師団、USCAR、地元産業界の協力を得て行われたもので、エジソン財団の後援で世界中で祝われるトーマス・A・エジソンの誕生日1947年2月11日を記念して開催された。第7回目となる今回のプログラムのハイライトは、金武発電所、石川浄水場、空軍のコンピューター航空運用センター、陸軍の瑞慶覧通信センター、中部製糖所、沖縄プライウッド社の見学と講義であった。
