HALF-MILLION DOLLAR GRI MUSEUM OPENS -- The Government of the Ryukyu Islands Museum located in Shuri, Naha opened Nov. 3 to the general public. The museum was built with $321,000 contributed by the United States and $254,000 from the GRI for part of the construction and the cost of the land. Boasting a total floor space of about 30,000 square feet, the new museum houses an exhibit room, library, research and storage room, and an auditorium. Not only artifacts and other museum pieces are effectively stored and displayed in the museum, but also tradition and history are presented graphically in actual dance, song, lecture, and film and slide showings in an auditorium.
