NEW GRI MUSEUM DEDICATED - Civil Administrator Gerald Warner is shown cutting a Ribbon at a dedication ceremony of the Ryukyu Governmental Museum at Shuri, Naha City, Oct. 6. The attractive, air-conditioned museum is of a unique architectural design and in the word of the Civil Administrator speaking at the dedication, "embodies the bold and sturdy structure of the Shuri and Nakagusuku Castles, utilizing the fine stone work Which the Okinawan have developed with a high degree of skill . . . This new structure," he said, " may be regarded as an outstanding museum comparable to the best in this part of the world." The museum houses not only an exhibit room but a library, research and storage room, and an auditorium. The museum has 30,000 square feet of floor space paid for with $321,000 in U.S. aid funds and $58,000 in Government of the Ryukyus funds. The 3,400 tsubo of land for the site were purchased for $196,000 by the Government or the Ryukyus, and will permit future expansion. 10月6日、那覇市首里の琉球政府立博物館の落成式でテープカットするジェラルド・ワーナー民政官。冷暖房完備の美しい博物館は独自の建築デザインで、落成式で民政官は「首里城や中城城の大胆で頑丈な構造を体現しており、沖縄の人々が高度な技術で発展させてきた見事な石造りを活かしている。この新しい建物は、最も優れた博物館と並び称されるべきものである」と述べた。博物館には展示室だけでなく、図書室、研究室、収蔵室、講堂が設けられている。延床面積は3万平方フィートで、米国の援助金32万1,000ドルと琉球政府からの5万8,000ドルによって賄われた。敷地用地として3,400坪の土地が琉球政府により19万6,000ドルで購入され、将来的な拡張が可能となっている。テープカットに臨む（左から）琉球政府文教局赤嶺義信局長、民政官、大城知善館長、琉球政府松岡政保行政主席。
