REV. BETTELHEIM'S BIBLE AND A BOOK entitled "A Voyage of Discovery to the West Coast of Korea and Loochoo Islands" were presented to the Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI) Chief Executive Chobyo Yara on July 17 as a gift to the GRI Museum in Shuri. The presentation was made by Mrs. Theodore F. Beresford, great granddaughter of the Rev. Bernard J. Bettelheim who devoted his efforts to work as a missionary, doctor, and linguist during his stay on Okinawa from May 1846 to July 1854. The Bible was presented to the Rev. Bettelheim when he became a minister in 1841 in London. Mrs. Beresford came to Okinawa in 1965 with her husband, U.S. Air Force Maj. Theodore F. Beresford. The couple was scheduled to depart for the United States on July 20.
≪ベツテルハイムの聖書と本を贈呈 -- 故ベツテルハイム牧師愛用の聖書と本（「朝鮮及び琉球列島の探見航海記」）が、6月17日、屋良主席に贈られた。これはバーナード J・ベツテルハイム牧師の曾孫に当るセオドア F・ベレスフォード夫人が、沖縄の住民のために首里博物館に保存して欲しいと贈呈したものである。ベツテルハイム牧師は、1846年5月から1854年7月まで沖縄に滞在し、宣教師、医者、言語学者として活躍した人である。愛用の聖書は、1841年ロンドンで、ベツテルハイム氏が牧師になった時に贈られたものである。ベレスフォード夫人は1965年、空軍少佐である夫と共に来沖し、今月の20日帰国した。≫【和訳】
