PRESS CONFERENCE FOR NEW MUSEUM -- Mr. Gerald Ober, of Oakland, Calif., an American museum expert, explains the plans for the new Ryukyuan museum at a news conference on June 23, at the conference room of the Office of the High Commissioner. The modern museum will be constructed with U.S. assistance in the vicinity of the University of Ryukyus campus on Shuri Hill. The plans include air-conditioned, typhoon and fire-resistant indoor exhibition and display halls, an auditorium for museum lecturers, slide and motion picture presentations, and a garden court in the center of the building for outdoor displays. The design is the result of a cooperative effert [effort?] by Ryukyuan architect Noboru Ganaha, and Ryukyuan cultural and educational leaders. Mr. Ober, museum designer of the U.S. Department of Interior, arrived here at the invitation of the Office of the High Commissioner on May 31 for consultation with Ryukyuan and American cultural and educational leaders on the design and construction of a new Ryukyus' museum. He left for San Francisco, via Tokyo, after the press conference.
