MISS "HUI MAKAALA" OFHAWAII, Miss Barbara Chinen (C), showed her interest in articles of china displayed in the hobby shop at Kadena Air Base. Miss Chinen visited the hobby shop on May 7, during her goodwill tour of Okinawa. Tommy Chimoji, an Okinawan ceramic instructor, answered the why's and how's asked by Miss Chinen. Behind Miss Chinen is Miss Becky Beers from Kubasaki High School who acted as Miss Hui Makaala's escort.
MISS BARBARA CHINEN, Miss "Hui Makaala" of 1963, arrived on Okinawa on May 3 for a seven-day goodwill visit. Her schedule on Okinawa includes courtesy calls on Ryukyu's top governmental, civic and military officials; tours of cities, villages and military installations; press conferences and interviews; receptions and social functions; and visits with relatives and friends. The Golden Gate Club of Okinawa is assisting her Hui Makaala-sponsored visit. Miss Chinen was awarded her title and a round-trip visit to Japan and Okinawa by winning the Hui Makaala Scholarship Fund Raising Contest for 1963.

1963年度のミス・フィ・マカーラのバーバラ・チネンが7日間の親善訪問のため5月3日、沖縄入りした。日程には≪儀礼訪問、沖縄各地と軍施設見学、記者会見とインタビューリセプション、宴会、親戚友人訪問等が含まれている。ミス・フィマカーラの沖縄滞在期間中は沖縄金門クラブが接待することになっている。知念さんはフィ・マカーラの1963年度奨学資金募集のため催されたコンテストでミス・フィマカーラのタイトルと日本沖縄招待旅行の特典を獲得した。≫
