Dr. Lester Asheim (L), director of the International Relations Office of the American Library Association, is currently visiting Okinawa to study library development and the needs for library education here. During his six-day stay here, he is visiting libraries of schools, public halls and cultural centers on Okinawa and conferred with officials regarding cultural relations programs and effective library projects and services. Here, Dr. Asheim receives a briefing on the Fifth International Library Week in the Ryukyus from Dr. Samuel N. Mukaida, chief, cultural affairs division, Office of Public Affairs, Office of the High Commissioner. Dr. Asheim arrived on Okinawa on May 3.
【和訳】アメリカ図書館協会国際関係室長のレスター・アスハイム博士（左）が、沖縄の図書館の発展と図書館教育のニーズ調査のため、現在沖縄を訪問している。6日間の滞在中、沖縄の学校、公共ホール、文化会館の図書館を訪問し、文化交流や効果的な図書館事業とサービスについて関係者と協議した。また、高等弁務官室広報部文化課のサミュエル・N・ムカイダ課長から、琉球における第5回国際図書館週間について説明を受けた。アスハイム博士は5月3日に沖縄入りした。
