The Okinawa Central Hospital (OCH) held a completion ceremony at the hospital on April 28, 1971 honoring 13 physicians who completed their second year of postgraduate medical training as residents and 14 physicians who completed one year of training as interns. The ceremony was attended by Dr. (Col.) Robert T. Jensen, director of the Health, Education and Welfare Dept., U.S. Civil Administration of the Ryukyus (USCAR); Dr. Tomotada Owan, chief, Medical Affairs Div., Welfare Dept., Government of the Ryukyu Islands (GRI); and Dr. Zenshi Inafuku, president, Okinawa Medical Association. On behalf of High Commissioner James B. Lampert and Civil Administrator Robert A. Fearey, Dr. Jensen offered sincere congratulations and best wishes. Dr. Jensen advised the "graduating" doctors that "the greatest lesson for a doctor to learn is the simple fact that he must never stop learning," and added that "Medicine is international, and wherever training programs have international teaching staffs, the programs have been enriched." All the two-year residents, except one from Japan proper, will be employed by the GRI, and all the doctors who completed their first year of training will remain at the hospital for another year of training. The training program, funded by USCAR and the GRI, is conducted by six international medical consultants from the U-H and 12 full-time Okinawan staff members of the OCH. Those who completed the two-year residency training are: Surgeons Sakae Nakamatsu of Nakagusuku-son, Tsunao Ogimi of Naha City, Masaaki Yamashiro of Gushikawa City, Mitsuo Yogi of Motobu-cho, and Yoshifumi Horikawa of Itoman-cho; internists Manabu Arakaki of Tokashiki-son, Tadashi Kuba of Naha City, Mitsumasa Sonoda and Koichiro Inomata of Kagoshima, Kyushu, and Minoru Kawahira of Tamagusuku-son; obstetrician-gynecologists Tsugutaka Nashiro of Tokyo and Sachiko Taba of Shuri; and pediatrician Kaoru Ashimine of Naha City. Those completed one-year training are: Doctors Takaaki. China of Naha City, Eisei and Hideyoshi Henzan of Kunigami-son, Hiroshi Ikehara of Chatan-son, Masakiyo Ishihara of Misato-son, Tokusei Kikumura of Naha City, Kinshi Nagae of Fukuoka, Kyushu, Moritsugu Oyama of Naha City, Hideo Sunakawa of Hirara City, Masanori Takeshima of Ginowan City, Eiichi Tamanaha of Nishihara-son, Shinko Tawata of Ginowan City, Katsunori Toyama of Nago City and Tomohiro Yonaha of Ishigaki City. The U-H group currently consists of: Doctors Robert B. Sudrann, medical director and cardiologist; Louise A. Hutchinson, associate of internal medicine; Robert H. Hutchinson, associate professor of orthopedic surgery; Masao Maeshiro, associate professor of surgery; Carlyne A. Newman, associate professor of radiology; and Arthur T. Ooghe, associate professor of pediatrics. The hospital's teaching staff consists of: Surgeons Joji Arakaki, director, Masakazu Yamauchi, deputy director, and Kunio Fujimura; surgeon-urologist Naoyoshi Miyazato; internists Fujihiko Miyazato, Shinzo Oshiro and Yoshimori Osato; obstetrician-gynecologists Shoichi Hamada and Takenori Toyama; orthopedist Tokujiro Sakuragawa; pediatrician Seibin Shikina; and radiologist Soryo Yamashiro. ≪1ヶ年目の医学研修を終えた医師14人及び2ヶ年目の医学研修を終えた医師13人の修了式が去る4月28日中部病院で催され、ロバート・T・ジェンスン米国民政府厚生教育局長、大湾朝忠琉球政府厚生局医務部長、稲福全志沖縄医師会長等が出席した。ジェンスン局長はランパート高等弁務官並びにフイアリー民政官にに代わって祝辞を述べた。ジェンスン局長は祝辞の中で、「医師にとって最も偉大な教訓は研究を続けなければならないということであります。医学は国際的なものであり、国際的な教授陣による医学研修計画はどこに於ても充実した計画になるものである。」と語った。2ヶ年目の研修を終えた13人の医師のうち日本本土出身である1人の医師を除いてはすべて琉球政府の公務員医師になり、又、1ヶ年目の研修を終えた14人の医師は中部病院で引き続き2ヶ年目の研修を受けることになっている。中部病院に於ける医学研修計画は、米国民政府や琉球政府の資金で実施されているもので、研修にはハワイ大学野の顧問6人及び中部病院の常勤医師12人が研修医の指導に当たっている。2ヶ年目の研修を終えた医師は、仲松栄（外科医、中城村）、大宜味綱夫（外科医、那覇市）、山城昌和（外科医、具志川市）、与儀実津夫（外科医、本部町）、堀川義文（外科医、糸満町）、新垣学（内科医、渡嘉敷村）、久場侃士（内科医、那覇市）、園田光正（内科医、鹿児島）、猪俣紘一郎（内科医、鹿児島）、川平稔（内科医、玉城村）、名城嗣隆（産婦人科医、東京）、田場幸子（産婦人科医、首里）及び安次嶺馨（小児科医、那覇市）。1ヶ年目の研修を終えた医師は、知名孝明（那覇市）、平安山英盛、平安山英義（兄弟、国頭村）、池原弘（北谷村）、石原昌清（美里村）、喜久村徳清（那覇市）、永江欣司（福岡）、大山盛紹（那覇市）、砂川豪甫（平良市）、武島正則（宜野湾市）、玉那覇栄一（西原村）、多和田真光（宜野湾市）、当山勝徳（名護市）、及び与那覇朝弘（石垣市）。ハワイ大学顧問団のメンバーは次の通り：ロバート・B・スドラン団長（心臓学）、ルイス・A・ハッチンソン医師（内科準教授）、ロバート・D・ハッチンソン医師（整形外科准教授）、真栄城優夫医師（外科准教授）、カーリン・A・ニューマン医師（レントゲン科准教授）、アーサー・T・オーギー医師（小児科准教授）、ステーブン・チネン氏（臨床検査技師）、及びスミコ・ヘンナさん（看護顧問）。研修医の指導に当たっている中部病院の医師は次の通り：新垣浄治院長（外科）、山内昌和（外科）、藤村邦夫（外科）、宮里尚義（外科、泌尿科）、宮里不二彦（内科）、大城新蔵（内科）、大里尚司（内科）、浜田正一（産婦人科）、当山雄紀（産婦人科）、桜川徳次郎（整形外科）、識名盛敏（小児科）、及び山城宗亮（レントゲン科）。≫
