Admiring a Ryukyuan doll made by Mrs. Ayako Kinjo (R), member, Board of Directors, Okinawa Handicraft Production Pro-motion Association (OHPPA), are Mrs. Robert E. Kays (C), wife of USCAR's Public Affairs Dept. Director, and Mrs. Mitsuko Tokumura, member, Board of Directors, OHPPA, at a Ryukyuan handicrafts exhibit held at the Naha Ryukyuan-American Cultural Center, Sept. 16. The exhibit was sponsored by OHPPA to improve the skills and techniques in the handicrafts industry and to expand markets. More than 150 items made by OHPPA members were exhibited, including textiles, knitwork, dyed goods, Bingata, artificial flowers, pouches, artworks and dolls. The 0HPPA members discussed the design, color, size, and prices of each item. Mrs. Keys introduced a pandanus-made placemat set which she brought from Hawaii as a sample.

9月16日、那覇琉米文化会館で開かれた沖縄手工芸品の展示会で金城文子沖縄手工芸推進事業団理事(右)の製作した琉球人形を賞讃しているロバート・E・ケイズ民政府広報局長夫人(中央)と徳村光子理事。同展示会は沖縄の手工芸の技術の向上と市場開拓のために沖縄手工芸推進事業団が開催したもので、織物、編物、染物、紅型、造花、袋物、民芸品、人形等、会員の作品150点以上が展示された。出席した会員達は各作品のデザインや色、サイズ、値段等について検討した。尚、ケイズ夫人は参考品としてハワイで求めたアダン葉で作られたプレスマットを出品した。
