【原文】 AIRMAN HEARS STORY OF GODDESS OF MERCY - Sergeant Phil C. Geraci, of Frederick, Maryland, a photographer assigned to the 1st Air Division, sits in front of a Buddhist temple in the Ishikawa Exhibit house and listens while an Okinawan guide explains that the temple was constructed of ”daigo”, a very light weight local wood, by a famous Japanese artist named Kumakai who disappeared in Okinawa during the war. The figure represents Kwannon, the Goddess of Mercy. Other objects of Okinawan culture are seen on the altar. Okinawa, Ryukyu Retto.
【和訳】 石川展示場(東恩納博物館)内仏教寺の前に座り沖縄人案内の説明に耳を傾ける第1空軍カメラマン、ゲラーシ三等軍曹。この寺はとても軽いデイゴの木で造られており作者は戦争中行方不明になった有名な日本人芸術家クマカイである。像は慈悲の女神観音様である。祭壇には沖縄文化を象徴するその他のものが見られる。
