The man in shorts is Foreign Office representative and one of two civilians in the group. Other civilian is shown in pith helmet. Ceremony took place under the wing of the Douglas C-54 which was waiting to fly the Japanese Surrender party on to Manila for peace discussions.

This chapel， built by the 85th Engineer Aviation Battalion after the landing three years ago， still stands on a hillside overlooking the East China Sea not far from Kadena. Two airmen， on a recent visit， are shown walking up the steps to read the plaque which states: ”Dedicated to the Men who have given their lives that we might pause to Worship here. Constructed by 85th Engineer Aviation Battalion”.

The tombs are as old as the land， muchly respected and some are still in use. They naturally attract attention from airmen assigned on Okinawa. Sgt. Paul V. Hussion of Grafton， West Virginia， is assisting PFC Clare E. Adams of Waco， Texas， as they inspect the tomb.

8016-26-3米国空軍　第二次世界大戦関係1948年 8月石川【原文】 HEADQUARTERS， 71ST TACTICAL RECONNAISSANCE WING， OKINAWA， RYUKYU RETTO -- Dangling from the ladder of a Kadena based Air Force R-6 Helicopter was Cpl. Ed Sutowski's job during the three day Ishikawa Beach festival， held at Ishikawa Beach， 4， 5， and 6th of August， 1948. The breath taking Air-Sea rescue demonstration from a life raft took place at four o'clock each day， giving the astonished crowds a sample of Air Force rescue work at sea. Piloting the helicopter was 1st Lt. Robert S. Wardner of Bloomingdale， New York， a member of the 2nd Rescue Squadron at Kadena Air Force Base.
